There is a
lot of confusion around ‘coaching’ as this is a
relatively new professional field in India. As the
differentiating border coaching has with mentoring,
consulting and counseling can be narrow; International
Coaches Federation (ICF) defines Executive Coaching as: “Professional
coaching is an ongoing professional relationship that
helps people produce extraordinary results in their lives,
careers, businesses or organizations. Through the process
of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve
their performance, and enhance their quality of life.
In each meeting, the client chooses the focus of
conversation, while the coach listens and contributes
observations and questions. This interaction creates
clarity and moves the client into action. Executive
Coaching
accelerates the client's progress by providing greater
focus and awareness of choice. Executive Coaching concentrates on
where clients are now and what they are willing to do to
get where they want to be in the future, recognizing that
results are a matter of the client’s intentions, choices
and actions, supported by the coach’s efforts and
application of the coaching process.”
We at ODA have a coaching model that focuses only
on changing behavior. Changing behavior (what we
do or say) is the most important challenge for businesses
trying to compete in a turbulent world, says John Kotter,
a Harvard Business School professor.:
“The central issue
is never strategy, structure, culture, or systems. The
core of the matter is always about changing the
behavior of people.”

Leader as a Coach:
Marcus Buckingham reflects on his Gallup research, “The
corporate world is appallingly bad at capitalizing on the
strengths of its people.” This condemnation is directed at
leaders who are unable to evoke the full and willing
commitment of employee teams to apply their energies to
achieving the corporate goals. The need is clear: a
strong, vibrant workplace where Leaders engage both the
hearts and the minds of individuals and teams in using all
of their talents to contribute to high performance
results. So it is important to be self-aware and coach
others and teams for higher results and higher fulfilment
and meaning.
We have designed this workshop for Senior Leaders who want
to create breakthrough performance replacing incremental
improvements, leading to new or sustained competitive
edge. Partnering and collaboration are more gratifying
than directing and controlling and that’s what this
workshop helps you successfully master. This workshop will
also evoke much more of people’s creativity and talent for
their benefit and the benefit of the organization.
Coaching happens from the inside out. The workshop focuses
on who you are as a leader? That is, you have to be aware
of who you are, how you are perceived, what your own
strengths and weaknesses are, and be learning and
developing yourself before you can begin to help others do
the same.
We offer a similar workshop for Middle Management Level
named Manager as a Coach. Our Manager as a Coach
Program equips the participants with the doing skills
of Coaching and helps them become effective managers and
create a coaching culture in their organization.
Executive Coaching
(One to One coaching):
One of
the more recent approaches to executive development has
been called Executive coaching. Under a Executive Coaching paradigm, it is
believed that “the more an individual is involved in
identifying strengths, possibilities and problems, in
working out and applying solutions for them and in
reviewing the results, the more complete and the more
long-lasting the learning is. This form of self-learning
tends to bring about learning with a deeper understanding
than learning that is taught. To give this more
perspective, “Executive coaching is very different than teaching or
instructing. It is best described as facilitating. The
coach encourages the learner to learn for him/herself...As
well as acquiring new job competencies; the learner
gradually develops new and more effective learning skills.
He/she becomes a proactive learner, capable of learning
from almost any experience encountered.
Most of our coaching has been at the
Leadership Level.
Executive Coaching, ICF Approved Coach Certification, Coach Training Program
in india supports leaders in achieving the
results that are important to his or her personal success
and the long-term success of his or her organization. We
assume that the client is the expert on his or her own
leadership. The Coach’s role is to draw out the client’s
expertise through inquiry, curiosity and gentle
challenges. We help the client to stretch into his or her
best self as a leader. We are attentive to client’s
physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual state. We
help the client to focus on his or her presence and
behaviors. We seek mutual understanding of the
organizational culture and systems (including policies and
practices) within which the client leads. Our role as a
coach is distinct from consulting, advising, therapy, or
counseling. However, Executive coaching does address personal
issues or life conditions that impact a leader’s
professional effectiveness.
